While many fans may not have initially been sold on the idea of Gotham Knights, the show has seemingly found its audience via streaming.

According to FlixPatrol, The CW's latest superhero drama is comfortably sitting at HBO Max's third-most popular series, beaten out only by HBO giants Succession and The Last of Us. This placement also makes it one of four shows in the top 10 that aren't HBO or HBO Max Originals. Gotham Knight's popularity surge comes amid The CW's downsizing, leading many fans of the studio to question the future of its stories.

While Gotham Knights has found its fans, the show's initial announcement and reveal left many enthusiasts wanting. Set after the death of Bruce Wayne aka Batman, the narrative follows his adopted son Turner Hayes who has been framed for the Caped Crusader's murder. The first trailer left many angry and frustrated as viewers criticized the quality, claiming the production value was evidence of The CW's cost-cutting measures. Despite this perception, early reviews were more mixed than many expected as critics praised Gotham Knight's diverse cast of characters and the compelling mystery running throughout the narrative.

Two-Face Is Coming to Town

One of Gotham Knights' biggest selling points is Misha Collins, an actor who has fostered a dedicated fanbase for his portrayal of Castiel in fellow CW series Supernatural. The ever-popular star plays the role of Harvey Dent, the city's district attorney who's destined to take up the persona of the villainous Two-Face. Collins has spoken at length about his enthusiasm for the role, insisting fans won't be disappointed by his transformation. That change may stay be a while though as Dent is only expected to fully fall into a life of crime when Season 1 concludes.

While Collins is currently the only Supernatural alum to stare in Gotham Knights, that wasn't always the case. The actor noted that Jensen Ackles almost featured as Bruce Wayne but the appearance ultimately never came to fruition due to clashing schedules. "I don't know if I'm supposed to reveal this, but we tried to work it out to have Jensen play Batman on the show," Collins said. "It was all kind of teed up, but unfortunately, Jensen was on another show at the time, and coordinating between two series is challenging."

Gotham Knights debuts new episodes every Tuesday on The CW.
