Gotham Knights star David Alexander Miller just shared a photo of Batman's bloody, broken mask in The CW's upcoming superhero series.

Miller, who portrays both the Dark Knight and his civilian alter-ego Bruce Wayne in the show, posted the behind-the-scenes snap on Instagram. It makes use of a makeup mirror to offer a clear look at both the front and back of the battle-damaged cowl, which is splattered with blood and missing a substantial chunk beneath its left eye slit. Miller himself is also visible in the photo wearing what appears to be Bruce Wayne's business attire, the left side of his face caked in fake blood, too.

Gotham Knights is set in the aftermath of Batman's death, which initially cast doubt on whether Bruce Wayne would appear in the show. These doubts were laid to rest in April 2022, after an unofficial set video confirmed that an actor had indeed been hired to portray the billionaire philanthropist. The video included shots of a trailer with Wayne's name on the door, although Miller's casting was still not public knowledge at the time. Exactly how large a role Miller will play in the series is also currently unclear.

Fans got their first look at Batman's mask in Gotham Knights the following month, courtesy of an Instagram post by producer Jonathan Gabay. Gabay's post included a close-up image of the Caped Crusader's headgear, which was colored bright blue and not black as it is in Miller's photo. It's possible that this version of the cowl was either an early prototype or a final version ready to be coated in black paint. Alternatively, the show could potentially include more than one iteration of Batman's iconic disguise.

More recently, Miller's co-star Misha Collins teased the relationship between Harvey Dent and Bruce Wayne in Gotham Knights, as well as his connection to Wayne's adopted son Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan). "I'm playing Harvey Dent who is the D.A. of Gotham and I also happen to have been friends with Bruce Wayne," he said. "I knew this young man [indicates Morgan] very well growing up, right? Turner Hayes was almost like an adopted nephew to me, so when the evidence piles up against him, I don't want it to be true."

Collins previously confirmed that fans will get to see him become classic Bat-villain Two-Face in Gotham Knights, although he warned fans that this transformation is a while off yet. "[M]y character will be Harvey Dent for the whole first year. So I have a nice long stretch of not being two-faced," he said.

Gotham Knights is set for a mid-season premiere on The CW.
