McFarlane Toys revealed its figures for Gotham Knights, offering a close look at the many protégés of Bruce Wayne who will take center stage in the upcoming video game.
Tim Drake, Jason Todd, Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon are all present and accounted for on the McFarlane Toys website in their guises as Robin, Red Hood, Nightwing and Batgirl. Each figure captures the likeness of the heroes as depicted in the WB Games Montréal game, and measures 7 inches with up to 22 articulated parts. Robin comes with his bo, Red Hood with his pistols, Nightwing with his twin eskrima sticks and Batgirl with a tonfa. The figures also come packaged with collectible art cards that feature a photograph on the front and character bios on the back.
All four of the Gotham Knights figures are set for release in 2022, and while they aren't currently unavailable for purchase, pre-orders are likely to open up shortly before the game's rumored release window of spring 2022.
The latest trailer for Gotham Knights, revealed during DC FanDome 2021, showed off the eerie organization known as the Court of Owls, created by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo during their pivotal run on Batman during DC's New 52 initiative. Known for secretly manipulating Gotham City from the shadows and sending assassins known as Talons out to do their bidding, the Court of the Owls rise up when Bruce Wayne seemingly dies. The game's narrative focuses on Batman's adopted family investigating their mentor's apparent death, foiling the Court and matching wits with a host of other criminals, including Mr. Freeze and The Penguin.
The Bat-Family, as depicted in the game, is largely consistent with their comic book counterparts, albeit with a few key differences. Mirroring the backstory of their mentor, all of the game's heroes appear to be orphans who were either raised by Bruce or began working with him at a young age. This includes Barbara, whose father, Commissioner James Gordon, is deceased in this particular interpretation of the Batman mythos. The latest Robin, Damian Wayne, is absent from the lineup of playable characters, and there is no indication whether he or other Batman allies, like Batwing or Cassandra Cain, will appear as DLC in the near future.
Gotham Knights is the latest project from WB Games Montréal, which previously developed Batman: Arkham Origins, the prequel to Rocksteady Studios' Batman: Arkham trilogy, in 2013. The first major Batman video game to cast players in the role of the Bat-Family rather than the Dark Knight himself, Gotham Knights will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
