Gotham writer/producer Tze Chun has shared the first full look at actor Shane West in costume as the villain Bane. West is set to bring the Batman foe to life when the series returns for its fifth and final season next year.

The photo shows this new take on Bane take its cues from the original comic books, as well as previous films.

West wears an apparatus on his torso, which will more than likely supply the character of Bane with the Venom chemical that is responsible for his superhuman strength, speed and reflexes. Furthermore, the mask bears a resemblance to the one worn by Tom Hardy when he played Bane in Christopher Nolan's 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises.

"When Shane [West] comes into play him, there’s a level of authenticity,” Gotham showrunner John Stephens explained earlier this month at New York Comic Con. Stephens added that West's vivid performance will lead audiences to truly believe he could become a raging, "roided out" villain.
