Before Gotham ended in 2019, Cameron Monaghan finally got a chance to bring his live-action Joker to TV in earnest. His version of the character was horrifically disfigured, and a new behind-the-scenes video shows what the process of turning Monaghan into his character looked like.

The video, which was posted by Ben Bornstein on Instagram, shows a timelapse of Monaghan being transformed into Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime in 2018. The villain's look was achieved through prosthetic makeup.

The show focused on Jim Gordon's early days as a police officer and Gotham City, as well as Bruce Wayne's struggle following the death of his parents. A wide number of Batman villains appeared in the series, including Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman and, eventually, Monaghan's Joker.

Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth and Shane West as Bane.
