Gotham: Bane Shares His Origin Story with Jim Gordon In New Clip

Shane West as Bane on Gotham

Last seen in his civilian identity as Eduardo Dorrance, Shane West's Bane is poised to make his full debut in tonight's episode of Gotham.

Fox released a clip from this week's episode, appropriately titled "I Am Bane," with Bane confronting a captive Gordon and detailing his tragic upbringing in the prison Pena Dura. Bane reveals to his former friend and ally that, when he was a child, prison guards would take bets on which kids would be able to dig their way out from being buried alive, only to be buried deeper for the next round. Bane was a frequent target of their torment.

"To survive that, I had to stop being human. I became something else. I became Bane," the masked villain recounts to Gordon.

When Dorrance revealed his mission to purge Gotham entirely, Gordon gravely wounded him. This physically transformed Dorrance into Bane, and the vengeful villain has the whole city in his sights.

Airing Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox, Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth and Shane West as Bane. The next episode, "I Am Bane," is set to air March 21.
