Director James Gunn consulted We're the Millers star Molly Quinn before casting Will Poulter as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Speaking to The Direct, Quinn explained how her longtime friend Gunn reached out to discuss what her former co-star Poulter was like to work with. "He did ask me how my experience working with Will was. I think he asked a couple of other people as well, because James is great and is always checking everyone's references," she explained. "He wants to work with his friends, and if he's working with new people, he wants them to become friends. I only had glowing things to say about Will."

Quinn also discussed her excitement when she heard that Poulter was cast in the film. "Normally, when James asks me about this or that actor, I'll let it go. I don't follow up. But I was so excited that he was asking about Will that a couple days later I was like, 'Who got it?! Was it Will?!' And he was like, 'Yeah, it's Will.' I couldn't be happier for him and I hope they have an amazing time filming," she added.

Quinn -- who is also known for her roles in ABC's Castle and horror film Agnes -- starred alongside Poulter as Melissa Fitzgerald in We're the Millers, who was briefly a love interest of Poulter's character, Kenny. She even appeared in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Howard the Duck's date.

Poulter joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Adam Warlock, who is known in Marvel Comics as a perfect and all-powerful human being. The character was previously teased in the post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where High Priestess of the Sovereign Ayesha decided to create a being capable of destroying the Guardians.

Poulter's casting in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was announced back in October by Gunn, shortly followed by a cast photo celebrating the start of filming in November. "I feel very, very lucky and very honored to [have] been welcomed into the Marvel family... Particularly into a franchise like Guardians of the Galaxy, which I regard to be incredibly creative and very, very unique," Poulter explained. "And [writer-director] James Gunn's someone I really, really admire. So, [I] feel very lucky."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
