Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Michael Rosenbaum just confirmed that Martinex will be back for Vol. 3.

Rosenbaum spilled the beans regarding his return as the crystaline Ravager on Twitter. The actor referenced Martinex's split-second appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's San Diego Comic-Con 2022 trailer, apparently not realizing that Marvel Studios didn't share this footage more widely after the event. Rosenbaum portrayed Martinex in the second Guardians of the Galaxy film alongside the rest of Stakar Ogord's Ravager crew, whose membership reflects the original Guardians line-up in the comics.

Rosenbaum's Martinex-related revelation will likely add to fans' disappointment at Marvel Studios decision not to make the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 SDCC trailer available online. According to director James Gunn, the studio isn't solely to blame, though, as he also pushed for the footage to remain under wraps. "Although I love the teaser some VFX aren’t where I’d want them to be for repeated views [and] close inspection -- remember we didn't wrap long ago -- so you'll have to wait just a beat!" Gunn tweeted.

Guardians 3's MCU Cameos and Easter Eggs

Gunn also recently instituted "an official moratorium on responding to guesses" about the Easter egg that fans are still yet to spot in the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The filmmaker explained that he doesn't want to discuss Guardians' most elusive Easter egg until Vol. 3 premieres, because finding out ahead of time could spoil some fans' enjoyment of the upcoming sequel. Gunn previously hinted that the Guardians fanbase had only successfully teased out "about 60%" of the first film's biggest remaining secret.

While Gunn has declared that particular topic off-limits, the director is still happy to shoot down incorrect rumors surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, including its supposed Marvel Cinematic Universe cameos. Gunn recently debunked speculation that Harry Styles' Starfox would show up in Vol. 3, in what would be his first MCU appearance since 2021's Eternals.

The filmmaker has repeatedly dismissed reports that Thor is involved in the upcoming sequel, too. Gunn recently reiterated that not only was Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder never part of his plans for Vol. 3, but he also wasn't originally aware that the Guardians would star in Thor: Love and Thunder, either. "I wrote the [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3] script without ever thinking that [the Guardians] were ever going to be with Thor [in Thor: Love and Thunder], so it hasn't affected them at all," he said.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 23, 2023.
