Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, revealed details about the upcoming third installment, teasing fans that the movie will be better than Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.

The trilogy's finale has some Marvel fans bracing for a letdown, but Bautista insists that despite the ending being sad, it's also immensely satisfying. "It's very emotional. It's emotional, it's dark, and it's deep and it's inspiring," he explained in an interview with Uproxx. "I think this is going to be a special... Obviously, I haven't seen it and I always feel like that every time. I thought Guardians was going to be the best, or Guardians 2 was going to be the best. And after reading the script and after being on this film and filming it, it's just so much better."

After nearly a decade of being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bautista announced that the third installment of the Guardians trilogy will mark the end of his superhero career. Although he is appreciative for his experience at Marvel, he expressed his desire to move on from the character of Drax and looked forward to taking on more significant roles. "I'm so grateful for Drax. I love him," he said. "But there's a relief [that it's over]. It wasn't all pleasant... And I just don't know if I want Drax to be my legacy - it's a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff."

The End of the Guardians of the Galaxy Series

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is written and directed by James Gunn, who, like Bautista, is preparing to move on to new projects outside the MCU after being named co-CEO of DC Studios last year. In the upcoming threequel, fans can expect to see the titular team embark on one last cosmic mission in an attempt to protect one of their own while trying to save the universe.

Marvel Studios released the first trailer for Vol. 3 in December 2022, teasing fans with glimpses of Rocket's previously unknown origin story and confirming that the genetically modified raccoon will play an important role in the final installment. Gunn has previously stated that Rocket has always been the "secret" protagonist throughout the Guardians trilogy, claiming, "From the beginning, it has been rooted in who he is as a character. I think he exemplifies a lot of the traits of all the Guardians."

The beloved Guardians of the Galaxy cast will return in the third film, with Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper reprising their roles. It will also feature the long-awaited debut of Adam Warlock, who will be played by MCU's new addition Will Poulter.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023.
