“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” director James Gunn today posted to Facebook a handful of behind the scenes pictures from the set of the upcoming Marvel sci-fi sequel. The seven pictures show the cast and crew both working on-set and conversing candidly between takes.

Gunn also took the time to add some commentary to the pictures, celebrating the work of Zoe Saldana and the film’s camera crew during an action sequence involving real explosives.

In a separate photo, Gunn questions what exactly Chris Pratt is doing with his legs while speaking with the director.

In one photo, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista stand garbed as their respective character against a blue screen.

“Welcome to the frickin Guardians of the Galaxy... minus the characters who are made of pixels,” said Gunn in a comment appended to this photo, making light of the fact that Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel’s Groot are absent due to their being CGI-based.

Premiering in theaters on May 5, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is a production of Marvel Studios directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker and Karen Gillan.
