The following contains spoilers for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, now streaming on Disney+.

One of the major selling points of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is how they're unconventional defenders of justice. James Gunn's movies reaffirmed that Star Lord's team doesn't play by the rules, setting them apart from peers such as the Avengers. It sticks to their comic book ethos as a band of ragtag misfits in space, solving cosmic debacles their own way.

Interestingly, the Guardians do wander off course and make questionable decisions with their malleable code and flexible style. Admittedly, it happens with Star Lord and trickles down -- although the leader has tried to be better in recent times as he copes with Gamora's absence. However, after The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, he does need to have a special chat with Drax and Mantis on improving too because they're terrible at being heroes.

Drax Has No Problem Hurting Innocents

A cardinal rule in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is heroes don't kill. More specifically, they need to protect innocent lives, avoid mass casualties and prevent collateral damage. Marvel Studios, after all, doesn't want to end up with a problem like Superman in Man of Steel. Sadly, Drax didn't get this memo, endangering cops in the Holiday Special. In their trip to Los Angeles to take Kevin Bacon back to Star Lord as a gift, Drax smashes a squad car and flips it on its head.

Mantis rushes over, scolding him about the aggression and violence, but thankfully, the police aren't dead. They're just shaken up, which has fans wondering how Drax could be so careless. This creates grounds for making both aliens fugitives within the story, especially with the public knowledge they fought in the coalition against Thanos. The fact Drax also tosses Mantis over Bacon's wall as they break in and enter -- as funny as that is -- catches her off-guard and could have seriously harmed her earlier on. Drax's actions paint a clear picture that he needs to be taught how to have a moral compass. More specifically, how to bring ethics in the field so that he won't harm people and think nothing of it. As it stands, he's coming off quite unhinged.

Mantis Lacks Compassion and Empathy

Mantis holds presents in The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special.

While Drax has the lion's share of character flaws when it comes to his interactions with people, Mantis does deserve to be chastized as well. This is most notable in the scene where Star Lord (revealed to be Mantis' brother) has to point out her plan to bring Kevin Bacon as a Christmas gift is human trafficking -- a concept she's completely oblivious to. In addition, she keeps using her mind-control powers on Earth without care. She puts cops to sleep, not to mention she robs a woman of a map and money when trying to find Bacon's house. While this adds humor to the one-off episode, it's still disturbing as she can't tell how invasive, sadistic and manipulative this is. It's a straight-up robbery, plus one has to wonder what happens to these people's minds when they're messed with.

Admittedly, the MCU hasn't meaningfully addressed anything in terms of harm due to the mental intrusion. It does, however, feel like Mantis using this brainwashing ability so nonchalantly could have dire repercussions. Hopefully in future Guardians of the Galaxy installments, she learns with great power comes great responsibility, and in time, gains a sense of what's right and wrong. Ultimately, like Drax, Mantis a liability to Star Lord's mission of protecting Knowhere and the galaxy with this criminal behavior that could bring more enemies into play.
