GotG VFX Reel Goes Behind that David Hasselhoff Cameo

Weta Digital has released a reel from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that shows the visual effects breakdown of key scenes in the film, including that of a very special easter egg for franchise fans.

This is the quick scene featuring David Hasselhoff, someone Star Lord (Chris Pratt) has a unique obsession with, often picturing the singer and actor as what his father would look like -- before he met actually him, of course.

In the sequel, it turns out Star Lord's father is Ego (Kurt Russell), a living planet and Celestial, who sires kids and uses them to infect and take over planets. This sees an epic finale with the Guardians fighting him off, and the reel goes into the composite breakdowns on several action sequences before they were finished for the final cut. Some scenes included the Guardians dodging explosions, evading the living planet's terrain, as well as teaming up against Ego himself.

Luckily, fans see the breakdown of Hasselhoff's cameo, with the actor filming his scene in which Ego, chastising Star Lord for not joining him in his genocide quest, actually shape-shifts into Hasselhoff, showing the lengths he was going to manipulate his son. Thankfully, Star Lard was able to resist Ego's charms, and decided to use fists (and not a dance-off) to save the galaxy once more.

Following Ego's defeat, Star Lord and the Guardians then jetted off on some more galactic missions, currently culminating in a battle against Thanos and his forces in Avengers: Infinity War.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston, and Josh Brolin. The film is in theaters now.
