Karen Gillan revealed how she accidentally booked a couples therapy session during a shoot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - and had to attend in full Nebula makeup. The actress took to Twitter to celebrate the release of the latest GOTG film on May 5 by posting a screenshot of the aforementioned incident. It shows her sitting in full blue facepaint on a Zoom call for the appointment, with Gillan admitting via the caption that she forgot she would be shooting the film on the day of her appointment. Gillan has played the role of Nebula since the first film in the series back in 2014. Starting out as an enemy of the Guardians - due to her fierce hatred for sister Gamora - her hatred for father Thanos leads to an uneasy alliance with Star-Lord and his team. This evolution continues in the latest movie, with Gillan admitting that her character will change even more following the death of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. "We're starting to see Nebula post the death of the source of her trauma: Thanos. So he has been eliminated from the story, and now we're starting to see her character become a little bit of the person maybe she should have been had that not happened to her," Gillan stated.

An Emotional End for the Guardians

The upcoming GOTG movie is set to be the last film in the franchise, a fact that resulted in plenty of emotional moments on set. Gillan admitted that there is a moment in Volume 3 that will see several members of the cast crying genuine tears, as they all knew that their time in their respective roles could be coming to an end. "There's a scene towards the end of the film that's somewhat of an ending-of-an-era scene," the actress said. "And everyone was crying in the scene. When you see it, just know that none of us are actually acting. Like, everyone was very emotional. It did feel like a goodbye. And it felt real."

With this latest effort set to round off the trilogy, director James Gunn has therefore given it the longest runtime of any GOTG film yet at 2 hours and 29 minutes. However, he admitted that it was necessary for the movie to be so meaty so fans could experience the "full arc" for each character. "I promise, not a second is wasted," the director said. "There's no fat. It was necessary to experience the full arc for every major Guardians character, not only for this film, but for the trilogy (or, I should say, trilogy plus)."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5.
