2019's Captain Marvel introduced audiences to the cutest creature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- and it just so happened to look exactly like a cat from Earth. Named Goose the Cat, this animal was actually a member of the alien Flerken species. That granted it powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal felines, much to Nick Fury's chagrin.

Given the cute nature of the animal, many fans have wondered what became of her. Goose hasn't officially appeared in any projects since the events of Captain Marvel, but she's somehow known to the general public within the MCU. With her most likely place to appear next still a while away, here's a look at what may have happened to Captain Marvel's pet.

Who Is Captain Marvel's Goose the Cat?

The alien Goose came to Earth in the past, having befriended the Kree scientist Mar-Vell, who was masquerading as the human Wendy Lawson. The Flerken alien was quite territorial, with her moody nature making her fondness of Mar-Vell somewhat surprising. Mar-Vell would be shocked again when Goose took a shine to pilot Carol Danvers. Sadly, Mar-Vell's death would leave Goose without an owner or even a steady supply of tuna, with the creature spending most of its days living in the Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility.

Goose would be reunited with Danvers (under the moniker Vers), working alongside her and Nick Fury during a Kree-Skrull conflict. Goose wouldn't get along with Fury or the Skrull Talos, who quickly realized it was a dangerous Flerken alien. She was actually the one who blinded Fury in one eye, but this didn't stop him from adopting her after Danvers left Earth with the Skrulls. Later regurgitating the consumed Tesseract, this would be the last place that audiences saw Goose.

Where Is Goose In the Present-Day MCU?

Goose lived with S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury in his office until the year 2009, which is the last recorded whereabouts of the alien "cat." There is one clue as to what happened to her, however. In Disney+'s Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan had a drawing Goose in her Captain Marvel fan-art. That would suggest that the public somehow knows about Danvers' backstory, namely Goose's place in it. It's possible that info on Goose came from Scott Lang's podcast, where Kamala got most of her Captain Marvel intel. Even then, it makes no sense that Ant-Man would know about Goose, as the cat was completely absent when he briefly fought alongside Danvers.

Flerkens have an alien physiology that's quite different from actual cats, explaining why Goose was so long-lived. At the same time, this extensive life still had an expiration date, so it's entirely possible that, after releasing the Tesseract, Goose passed away from natural causes. Marvel Studios' creative head Kevin Feige stated that a future spinoff about Goose could happen, but it's unclear when this would take place in the MCU's timeline. Most likely, answers will come in the upcoming film The Marvels, which could see Danvers either reunited with her precious kitty or mourning it.
