Good Omens is getting a second season and Neil Gaiman, co-author of the original novel, says that this was what he and the late Terry Pratchett always wanted.

When asked on Tumblr when he decided to keep the story of Good Omens going after the point where the book ends, Gaiman answered "In 2010 when Terry and I agreed to let people go forward with making Good Omens as a TV show, we talked about the shape of the show as a whole and where it would go." The second season of Good Omens will see Gaiman return as showrunner alongside director Douglas Mackinnon and actors David Tennant and Michael Sheen as Crowley and Aziraphale, respectively.

In another post, Gaiman discussed how he and Pratchett first brainstormed the sequel in 1989, a year before Good Omens was published. "We fully intended to write it, whenever we next had three or four months free," he wrote. "Only I went to live in America and Terry stayed in the UK, and after Good Omens was published Sandman became SANDMAN and Discworld became DISCWORLD and there wasn’t ever a good time. But we never forgot it."

"Terry was clear on what he wanted from Good Omens on the telly. He wanted the story told, and if that worked, he wanted the rest of the story told," Gaiman continued. "There are so many questions people have asked about what happened next (and also, what happened before) to our favourite Angel and Demon. Here are, perhaps, some of the answers you’ve been hoping for. As Good Omens continues, we will be back in Soho, and all through time and space, solving a mystery which starts with one of the angels wandering through a Soho street market with no memory of who they might be, on their way to Aziraphale’s bookshop."

The first season of Good Omens was released on May 31, 2019. The story followed the demon Crowley and the angel Aziraphale, who had been living on Earth since the Garden of Eden and had become unlikely friends over the millennia. When it finally becomes time for the Apocalypse to occur, the pair decide they like the world too much to let it end and scheme to keep their respective sides from enacting their plans.

Good Omens stars Michael Sheen, David Tennant, Adria Arjona, Michael McKean, Miranda Richardson, Sam Taylor Buck, Jack Whitehall and Jon Hamm. Season 1 is available to stream on Amazon Prime. Season 2 has yet to receive a premiere date.
