WARNING: The following contains spoilers for NBC's Good Girls Season 4, Episode 7, "Carolyn with a Y."

NBC's Good Girls has really thrown Stan (Reno Wilson) to the wolves as he's been working as an enforcer for the mob in Michigan. It's due to him running ops for Beth (Christina Hendricks) and his wife, Ruby (Retta), to get them money to clean, which led to his boss at the stripper joint, Gene, cornering and forcing him into this new role to repay the debt. All of this has had Stan tense. He lost his cop job for tampering with evidence to save Beth a couple of seasons back. It comes to a head in the latest episode. Stan's hatred for Beth sinks deep into Ruby, creating a civil war among the housewives.

You can't blame Stan for disliking Beth as she always seems to duck the collateral damage. Even her husband, Dean, felt the pinch by doing time, which is why Stan lectures Ruby on Beth's corrupt ways. He's running a fake purse business with Gene but, seeing as they're coming up short, he needs to change things up. But before Ruby can recommend Beth for her genius, Stan makes it clear he doesn't want her involved.

Stan fears she'll take over the operation because she loves being the self-centered boss. Plus, wherever Beth is, Rio's gang is sure to follow, which could cause friction with Gene. Stan ultimately tells his wife Beth's poison and a parasite that drags her down, and it all stems from her ego. It's something they knew when she was head cheerleader in high school and not much has changed since. She still uses her influence, charm and beauty to sway people.

Stan's planted seed comes to fruition later on when Ruby hits them up for money. She confesses they're short on this mysterious side project, which pisses Beth off when she discovers the truth. She's adamant Ruby endangered their main op, but Ruby calls out her double standard. She makes it clear when Beth sleeps with Rio, she doesn't ask permission. In fact, Beth does things her way all the time, causing a stalemate as Annie can't pick sides. She knows her sister is right. Ruby's business could clash with Rio, but Annie's afraid to voice an opinion because of Beth's bossy. As such, her silence speaks volumes.

They eventually broker a verbal ceasefire, but Beth can tell these doubts have been simmering for a while. The fact Annie's quiet means she's complicit and agrees with Ruby. The whole situation leaves Beth the puppet master wondering if she's fit to lead at all.

Good Girls stars Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman, Retta, Matthew Lillard, Reno Wilson and Manny Montana. Season 4 airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
