WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Season 3 of NBC's Good Girls.

NBC's Good Girls has often found its housewives trying their very best to get rid of the villain known as Rio (Manny Montana). Beth (Christina Hendricks) shot him last season, but he survived and in Season 3, the gangster's causing even more mayhem as he has her, Annie (Mae Whitman), and Ruby (Retta) counterfeiting money for him.

They're in it deep and know any day now, Rio can decide to hire a new crew and kill them off. It's why in "Vegas Baby" the group hatches an ill-advised scheme to get someone to assassinate him first, but when it fails, it has dire consequences for everyone.

This scheme comes when Max realizes Beth knows about his girlfriend's disappearance. The designer, Lucy, was killed by Rio a couple of episodes back after she made the plates for the thug. Beth and the ladies witnessed everything, as it was a lesson to teach them loyalty and instill fear, but they had to stay silent as they'd incriminate themselves. When Max spots Beth's husband, Dean, with Lucy's bird, he pieces together the clues and he confronts the women who confess everything.

Max wants his soldier cousin to do the job but they don't have $30,000 to pony up. Beth somehow decides she can train Max and after ridiculous sessions, it's clear he can only pull the trigger at close range. The lucky thing is Rio doesn't know he's Lucy's boyfriend and he also has a meeting with Beth about her printer raising raw material costs. The printer didn't do that, it's all made up so Beth could skim, but she now has to fake this meeting which coincidentally allows Max close contact with Rio.

But when the moment of truth comes, the faux ink seller can't put a bullet in the villain. He's scared and actually tells Rio he's sorry he raised prices, at least saving Beth's skin to make Rio think she wasn't lying about costs. But one can tell Rio isn't buying it and leaves with that sinister smirk on his face. When Beth gets home, it all unravels as her family finds the house cleaned out. There are no belongings, bar a single letter which warns her never to steal again. Beth realizes how badly she messed up and Dean's also annoyed because that means Rio stole the gun he bought.

What makes the situation even scarier is Rio could make Annie and Ruby pay by targeting their kids or Ruby's husband, Stan. He always said he'd go after the women's families if push came to shove, and it seems this is the breaking point. Chances are he'll hunt Max down too to remind them to stop involving outside players. It's what got Lucy killed as Rio never sanctioned the counterfeiting project and it looks like for trying to play hero, Max might have dug his own grave. Dean can tell Beth botched whatever it is she was working on and he knows they're all in danger -- the problem is as no one's on good terms with Rio, they have no clue how to solve it.

Good Girls stars Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman, Retta, Matthew Lillard, Reno Wilson and Manny Montana. Season 3 airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
