In another spinoff from the popular Image Comics title, AMC will continue to examine life within the zombie apocalypse in The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Based on the comic book series created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, World Beyond explores the first-generation of survivors conceived during the downfall of civilization. In the tradition of The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, there will be heroes and villains trying to reclaim what's left of America after the undead took over. Time has passed since the zombie plague decimated the human population, but there is still hope to believe in.
From what we know about the third Walking Dead series, the upcoming AMC zombie drama was co-created by Scott M. Gimple and showrunner Matt Negrete. The timeline within World Beyond takes place about 12 years after the zombie apocalypse started. Alexa Mansour will be playing Hope and Julia Ormond plays Elizabeth, the leader of a formidable force. Because he was a Sheriff in a previous life, before he wound up in a coma, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) tries to bring back law and order at a dangerous time where neither one truly exists.
10 Rick Grimes' Coma (Hope)
Andrew Lincoln brought to life his character, Rick Grimes, from the comic book page. Lincoln has reportedly signed on to recur as his popular persona in three movie installments. Lincoln even guest-starred in an episode of Fear The Walking Dead, playing the same character. It would be interesting to see how World Beyond will connect to Rick Grimes's origin story. We have no idea what happened while Grimes had fallen under his coma. Were there doctors and nurses still taking care of Rick and the other patients at the hospital?
9 Judith (Don't)
Cailey Fleming has been amazing as Judith Grimes, the daughter of Shane Walsh. In the comics, Rick Grimes adopted Judith as his own daughter, even though his wife cheated on him with his best friend. Judith (Fleming) doesn't know what the world was like before the zombie apocalypse took place.
Judith just knows how to defend herself against the undead from her adoptive mother, Michonne (Danai Gurira). While learning how to read in the mid-season finale, Judith discovers libraries actually existed; which is something World Beyond would get into.
8 Morgan's Son (Hope)
Lennie James made his first appearance as Morgan Jones in The Walking Dead before being transferred over to Fear the Walking Dead. Just like in the comics, Morgan (James) and his son, Duane (Adrian Kali Turner), discovered Rick wandering lost in the streets. Because the timeline is set 12 years into the zombie apocalypse, Duane (Turner) could technically be around in the storyline. On the show, we really don't know what happened to Duane that made Morgan turn into a madman. World Beyond could share some insight into Duane's missing years.
7 Michonne (Don't)
Fear the Walking Dead has built its cast of supporting players by bringing in other members from The Walking Dead. Lennie James joined the spinoff as Morgan and Austin Amelio continues to play as Dwight on the show too. There's still a lot of story to tell with these characters.
Danai Gurira will be leaving her role as Michonne during the tenth season of The Walking Dead. Give Michonne a decent send-off and don't give her something open-ending so that she could possibly return in the prequel. Let Michonne's story end properly.
6 The Saviors (Hope)
In the comics, The Saviors are a bunch of violent and hostile survivors led by the motorcycle-clad Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan). World Beyond would be an interesting place to see how the Saviors came together. Maybe they had a different name during the undead apocalypse. What were the Saviors like as a group before Negan turned them into a vicious cult? How did they end up choosing their home and calling it, Sanctuary? Was there a leader before Negan took over the Saviors? There's a great story in there about how the Saviors came to be.
5 Carl Growing Up (Don't)
It would be pretty messed up if the creators of World Beyond chose a different actor to play Carl Grimes, the son of Rick Grimes. Just because the story is set 12 years into the zombie apocalypse, that doesn't mean the showrunner should find a younger actor to fill in for Chandler Riggs.
Viewers watched Chandler Riggs grow up on the show as Carl over the years. Carl grew up in the zombie apocalypse but he still remembers what it was like playing video games and hanging out with kids his own age.
4 The Seasons (Hope)
During the ninth season finale of The Walking Dead, Michonne and her gang had to deal with an incoming snowstorm. They had to protect themselves from walkers hiding under mounds of snow. What was special about the Walking Dead comics is how Rick and the others dealt with the different seasons. Everyone went through fall, winter, spring, and summer as the zombie apocalypse continued. It feels like summer really ends on Fear The Walking Dead. Let's hope World Beyond will make the sky rain at least and present different weather scenarios.
3 Rise of the Governor (Don't)
Audiences do not really need to witness the rise of The Governor or discover how Woodbury came to be. The Governor's backstory has already been explored through a long string of books. Though David Morrissey marvelously brought to life the Governor on the AMC show, there has not been a better antagonist since then on the show.
Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is more of an anti-hero now and has started picking fights with Beta (Ryan Hurst). World Beyond needs to create their own original Big Bad that has elements of The Governor and Negan.
2 An Explanation (Hope)
The Walking Dead comic has completely avoided explained how the zombie apocalypse came about. Did some scientists screw up in their underground lab and unleashed a deadly plague? Was it the biblical prophecy about the end of days that came true? How come there are no more doctors and scientists out there? Neither show has attempted to give an actual scientific explanation about what caused the zombie virus? Why does everyone suddenly have the virus within themselves and will turn into a member of the undead when they die?
1 Heath's Leg (Don't)
The Walking Dead has actually forgotten about what happened to Heath after Corey Hawkins was written off the show. Hawkins had the right look of the character, with Heath's glasses and signature dreadlocks. Behind-the-scenes, Hawkins' popularity was rising thanks to his breakout performance in Straight Outta Compton. Hawkins' acting career evolved from playing a bit part to the leading role on 24: Legacy. Heath loses his leg during battle after a grenade is launched during a fight against The Saviors. Viewer's don't need to see Heath's return on World Beyond.
