Anyone who follows entertainment may become numb to genre buzzwords getting thrown around haphazardly, but every now and then there's a mix of phrases that can't help but draw attention. A prime example is manga series Golosseum, which is tantalizingly described by American publisher Kodansha Comics as a series that "combines ultraviolence and pro wrestling with politics and weird science fiction."

Golosseum, by Yasushi Baba, is scheduled for English language release from Kodansha in May. CBR has the first look at the front and back cover to Vol. 1, which highlights some of the over-the-top elements of the series while visually a referencing the movie poster of your grindhouse cinema dreams.

Here's the publisher's official description of Golosseum: "Scientists discover a new material that renders people immune to all existing weapons. But these “peacemakers” instead transform world war into a martial-arts free-for-all! Rasputin plots with Russian President Putinov to control the global supply. Opposing them are the unstoppable Axe Bogan, a certain master in a jumpsuit from China, and a slew of other muscular heroes!"

Additionally, CBR has a look at a piece of Golosseum promo art, which will be seen on the back cover of Kodansha's Free Comic Book Day release this year (May 5), Ghost in the Shell: Global Neural Network Preview.

Golosseum first debuted in Japan in Feb. 2015. Kodansha Comics announced plans to bring it to the states at Anime NYC last November.
