Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman will supervise writers rooms for potential "G.I. Joe" and "Micronauts" film ideas for Paramount and Hasbro, as reported Friday by Deadline. This follows Goldsman supervising similar creative sessions for Hasbro property "Transformers," which yielded at least three movie ideas to broaden that live-action film franchise.

As noted by Deadline, Goldsman's new position means he will no longer write the next "Transformers" film, with Paramount currently negotiating with writers room participants Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (writers of 2008's original "Iron Man") and Ken Nolan ("Black Hawk Down") to pen the script. Goldsman will reportedly still "supervise" the screenplay.

Paramount has released two live-action G.I. Joe films, 2009's "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and 2013's "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," the latter of which featured a major cast overhaul from the original. Micronauts was a popular toy line in the late '70s that inspired a beloved Marvel comic book series of the same name that ran from 1979 to 1986, years after the toy line was cancelled. There has never been a Micronauts movie or television series, but a film has been in the works in one form or another since 2009. Just last month, Tom Wheeler was reported to be working on a "Micronauts" film; there's no word yet on how the writers room news may or may not affect his status.
