She's played as a bit of a dim bulb, full of wild stories about her very rural (fictional) town of St. Olaf, Minnesota. Ironically, Getty was a year younger than Bea Arthur, who played Sophia's daughter Dorothy, and in her early sixties, when she started work on the show.
