Goku has once again surpassed his previous limits in the latest chapter of Dragon Ball Super.

WARNING: HUGE SPOILERS FOR DRAGON BALL SUPER CHAPTER 85 AHEAD

The latest chapter of the sequel series was released on June 20. As the preview pages suggested, the chapter begins with Vegeta taking a beating from Gas, who is more than a match for the Saiyan Prince, even in his new Ultra Ego form. As Vegeta does battle with the Heeter's top warrior, he encourages to Goku to think about his own Ultra Instinct form and what it's capable of. After contemplating the situation for a moment, Goku then debuts a new form of Ultra Instinct, which lacks the silver hair of the form's "perfected" appearance and maintains the Saiyan warrior's standard black hair. Despite the lack of visual changes, this new level of Ultra Instinct seems to greatly boost Goku's powers beyond their previous heights, as he notes that he is now stronger than Gas. The new form seems to come with a time limit, as the Saiyan also notes he doesn't "have long" in this form.

While Goku's original "Perfect Ultra Instinct" was achieved by completely calming his heart, he notes in the latest chapter that this new variation on the form was achieved without having to calm himself, and instead allows him to use his emotions to his benefit. Gas is briefly taken aback by this, as he then realizes the resemblance between Bardock and Goku while in this form.

The Ultra Instinct form first made its debut in the 2015 movie Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F. Goku supposedly perfected the form during his later battle against Jiren, which gave him a power level stronger than that of even his Super Saiyan Blue form. The perfected form's silver appearance is influenced by the design of the angel Whis, who is one of the few beings who has mastered the ability. According to manga artist Toyotarou, Vegeta's Ultra Ego was designed to be the dark opposite of Ultra Instinct, and is instead influenced by the design of the God of Destruction, Beerus.
