The first trailer for the new MonsterVerse blockbuster Godzilla vs. Kong has set viewership records for Warner Bros.

The marketing campaign for Godzilla vs. Kong kicked off with a bang with its first trailer, which showcased a number of memorable action beats revolving around the two titular monsters' fight. The trailer also revealed new plot details, including that Godzilla and Kong's rivalry dates back to ancient times.

For those worried that the trailer spoiled too much of the film, Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard has reassured fans that there are plenty of surprises still in store. "I’m beyond thrilled to be able to share the insane epic mayhem. I know it looks like it shows a lot but this is only the tip of the monster iceberg ;)," Wingard wrote.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein, Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max March 31.
