Days after the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel began filming in Australia, a new behind-the-scenes image confirms the new film will be titled Origins.

The name was originally revealed during a local news report by 7News Brisbane about filming. And now, Twitter account @KDM_Monsters has shared a photo of the film's slate, seeming to confirm the title.

Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, which is the newest installment in Legendary Entertainment's epic MonsterVerse, started filming in late July on a beach on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Cast and crew were spotted on the sand, with extras being instructed to act like they were running away from a terrifying monster.

Though the title hints that the new film will give fans insight into the backstory of the titular monsters, not much is currently known about the plot of the sequel. Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard, who is also helming the sequel, previously stated he is interested in exploring Hollow Earth. "The clear starting point we teed up," teased Wingard back in 2021, "exploring Hollow Earth, I think there is a lot more to do there. There is a pre-history of Planet Earth, where all the [Titans] come up. We tee up some mystery in [Godzilla vs. Kong], things I want to see resolved and explored and pushed to the next level. If I have the opportunity, I know what I will do."

The MonsterVerse Is Growing

While it's still unknown how deep the new film will dive into Hollow Earth, other elements of the sequel have been confirmed. Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens has been tapped to star in the film. This won't be his first collaboration with Wingard -- the two previously worked together on the 2014 film The Guest.

Outside of the sequel, the MonsterVerse continues to expand. Godzilla vs. Kong writer Max Borenstein hinted at additions to the world, saying, "I've heard some exciting things that are happening that I can't divulge," explaining that there will be "new, interesting installments coming."

One of these new projects is an Apple TV Godzilla series which stars father-son duo Kurt and Wyatt Russell, alongside Pachinko's Anna Sawai, Dope's Kiersey Clemons, Mare of Easttown's Joe Tippett, Hyena's Elisa Lasowski, and Ren Watabe. Created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, the series will "follow a family's journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch." The show does not yet have a release date.

Godzilla vs. Kong: Origins is set to hit theaters on March 15, 2024.
