Godzilla vs. Kong not only dominated both the domestic and global box office in its opening week but also reigns supreme against all other movies on HBO Max's platform.

Shortly after Godzilla vs. Kong's domestic release, streaming data source Samba TV reported that 3.6 million households tuned in to watch at least five minutes between the clash of the Titans during its first five days on HBO Max, as confirmed by Deadline. This makes Godzilla vs. Kong the most-watched film on HBO Max since the platform's launch in May 2020.

Although the streaming data on the epic kaiju film wasn't provided by HBO Max directly, WarnerMedia Direct-to-Consumer EVP and General Manager Andy Forssell stated on April 4 that Godzilla vs. Kong "had a larger viewing audience than any other film or show on HBO Max since [its] launch," conquering recent hits like Wonder Woman 1984 (2.2 million households over its Christmas weekend launch) and Zack Snyder's Justice League (1.8 million households over its first four days on HBO Max's streaming platform).

The kaiju battle also saw the largest IMAX opening in a year, bringing in $4.5 million across 284 screens in North America. IMAX confirmed that more than 1,000 domestic IMAX shows were sold out during the film's first five days of being out in theaters across North America.

After it was confirmed that Godzilla vs. Kong brought in over $48 million dollars at the domestic box office in its first five days, director Adam Wingard spoke about the potential for more MonsterVerse films. Wingard stated, "I think the MonsterVerse is at a crossroads where audiences need to vote if they want to see another one of these films before they continue." He added, "Let's figure out what people really like about this movie. Then if we're gonna make a sequel, let's figure out what that is based on what people like and don't like."

MonsterVerse fans have already begun asking for a continuation of kaiju tales. Following Godzilla vs. Kong's successful opening week at the domestic box office, fans created the hashtag #ContinueTheMonsterVerse, which trended on Twitter over the most recent weekend.

At the time of this writing, Legendary Pictures -- the fourthquel's production company -- has not replied about whether or not another MonsterVerse film is coming, nor who would be attached to the project if it is greenlit.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein, Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. The film is now in theaters and on HBO Max.
