Deadpool 2 star Julian Dennison is poised to take up a role in Legendary's epic monster mash-up Godzilla vs. Kong.

The all-out monster brawl will see the two iconic movie villains coming to blows in 2020, although no details have been given as to who Dennison will be playing. Given his comedic roles so far in Taika Waititi's Hunt for the Wilderpeople and as a rebel mutant called Firefist in the Deadpool sequel, one can assume it'll be a humorous one.

Plot points have been scarce for Adam Wingard's movie, apart from 2015's Godzilla reboot and 2017's Kong: Skull Island putting both behemoths on a collision course. However, before the massive nuclear-powered lizard meets Kong in the present day, we'll have to see what he's been up to in 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters, with a few other characters from that movie then spilling over into Wingard's film.

As for Kong, when last we saw him in Skull Island, it was towards the end of Vietnam War, and he was only partially grown. And while his presence has remained a mystery to the world, it sounds like he hasn’t had an easy time of it since the '70s.

“You see [Kong] in that film and he’s just constantly under attack,” Wingard said. “Things are going wrong and there’s probably been lots of human intervention since then. It’ll be interesting to see a more rugged, a bit more aged Kong in this film.”

Godzilla vs. Kong is set to stomp into theaters on May 22, 2020, but not before Godzilla: King of Monsters on March 22, 2019. Part of the so-called “MonsterVerse,” Godzilla vs. Kong won’t only see the titular characters up against each other — they’ll be taking on both classic and new monsters, too.
