Godzilla vs. Kong concept art reveals three alternative looks of Ghidorah's severed skull.

After being teased in the post-credits scene of Kong: Skull Island, Ghidorah made its official MonsterVerse debut in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. After being defeated by Godzilla, the sinister Apex organization got its hands on one of the monster's heads and used it to power Mechagodzilla in the hopes that it would kill Godzilla. With the help of Kong, though, Godzilla is able to destroy Mechagodzilla.

Godzilla vs. Kong has been well received by both fans and critics. The film is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 75% rating among critics. The film brought in nearly $50 million in the U.S. over its opening weekend and has brought in a total gross of over $350 million.

Godzilla vs. Kong is the fourth film in Legendary's MonsterVerse. Previous films include Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). An animated series titled Skull Island set in the same universe will debut on Netflix in the near future.

Legends collide in Godzilla vs. Kong as these mythic adversaries meet in a spectacular battle for the ages, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home, and with them is Jia, a young orphaned girl with whom he has formed a unique and powerful bond. But they unexpectedly find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla, cutting a swath of destruction across the globe. The epic clash between the two titans -- instigated by unseen forces -- is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the Earth.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein, Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. The film is now playing in theaters and on HBO Max.
