Director Adam Wingard is a rising filmmaker, with genre favorites like The Guest, You're Next and Blair Witch. Although he's so far stuck with relatively low-budget projects, his newest endeavor is set to eclipse all of them.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wingard is attached to direct Godzilla vs. Kong, which will bring together the two enormous icons of Legendary Entertainment's MonsterVerse. He will oversee a script developed by a writers room that includes Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean), Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond), Lindsey Beer, Cat Vasko and T.S. Nowlin (Maze Runner), Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski.
The studio's 2014 Godzilla reboot was a hit with audiences and critics, and this year's Kong: Skull Island proved similarly successful. A meeting of the two monsters has been in development for some time, with details finally falling into place over the past few months. Wingard's blockbuster will hit the big screen following the release of next year's standalone Godzilla sequel, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and his live-action adaptation of Death Note, which debuts on Netflix.
Godzilla vs. Kong is set to stomp into theaters on May 22, 2020.
