Toho Co. Ltd. has revealed a new look for Godzilla. As reported by Kaiju News Outlet, the King of the Monsters has once again been given an updated look. The latest version of the character looks like a deliberate throwback to the more traditional Godzilla suits of the series' Showa and Heisei eras, blending the look of the the monster's design from his 1964 outings Mothra vs. Godzilla and Godzilla vs. The Thing with elements of the "Ghido-Goji" suit of 1991's Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. The new look make its official debut as part of the Real Escape Game attraction at Atami Bay Resort Korakuen, a tourist destination located in Japan's seaside Shizuoka prefecture.RELATED: Godzilla Appears to Be Eating Hamtaro in Bizarre Crossover Statue/Figure

It is currently unknown if this Godzilla design will appear in any future movies.

The iconic giant monster last received a dramatic redesign in his most recent Japanese theatrical outing, Shin Godzilla, which was released in 2017. That movie was co-directed by Neon Genesis Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno and frequent collaborator Shinji Higuchi, who are now helming the upcoming Shin Kamen Rider and Shin Ultraman films, respectively.

Following Shin Godzilla's release, Toho stated it will not produce a direct sequel to critically acclaimed 2017 film, but instead plans to create its own Godzilla cinematic universe, separate from the continuity established in Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse. The company announced plans to release a new movie in the series "every two years," beginning in 2021. Last year, the studio released Godzilla: Singular Point, an anime series from Eureka Seven studio BONES, and Godzilla vs. Hedorah, a new short that featured a rematch with the smog monster. Notably, that short was created using the suits from 2004's Godzilla Final Wars.

The Western developed MonsterVerse, meanwhile, is set to continue with a sequel to 2021's smash hit Godzilla vs. Kong. The new movie, entitled Son of Kong, will once again be directed by Adam Wingard. The movie is set to begin filming in Queensland later this year. Two spinoff series set in the same continuity are also in production: the first is an animated series entitled Skull Island, which will stream exclusively on Netflix, while the second, entitled The Titans, will be a live-action series for the Apple+ platform that will focus on Monarch, the organization that monitors the world's kaiju. Neither series currently has a premiere date.
