Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have released a full synopsis for Godzilla vs. Kong.

The film will see Godzilla and Kong engage in an all-out battle to restore balance to the earth. Kong, who is embarking on a journey with his protectors and a young, orphaned girl named Jia to find his true home, finds himself face-to-face with Godzilla, who is leaving a massive path of destruction across the Earth. Seemingly provoked, the synopsis hints at a mysterious force instigating the battle between the two titans.

The full trailer for the film was released on Jan. 24. While this is the first time Godzilla and Kong will be seen on screen together, the trailer reveals a history between the two monsters that goes back long before the events of Godzilla vs. Kong. Godzilla is enraged and provoked; Kong is protective of Jia, the young girl with whom he has a unique bond. Whatever the cause of their battle, the stakes are high as the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

Godzilla vs. Kong is one of many 2021 films slated to release simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max. While the film is the fourth installment in Legendary's Monsterverse, and a sequel to both Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of MonstersGodzilla vs. Kong is a standalone film meant to be enjoyed on its own.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein, Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max March 26.
