Dougherty, who had been hired to rewrite the script in 2016 with Krampus collaborator Zach Shields, was announced as the director in 2017 after the original director Gareth Edwards left the film to work on other projects. The film finished production in November and is the third film in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse, following 2014’s Godzilla and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island.

The film will show the crypto-zoological agency Monarch and its members scrambling to find their place while colossal kaiju monsters Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and the ominous King Ghidorah battle for supremacy, unaware that humanity’s existence hangs in the balance of their conflict.
