Released in 2019, Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the sequel to 2014's Godzilla and the third film in Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise, which also includes Kong: Skull Island. The film introduced Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah to the movie universe.

Mothra sacrifices herself to save Godzilla so he can defeat Ghidorah toward the end of the film, but a news clipping shown during the film's credits indicates that another Mothra egg was discovered, teasing her return to the franchise.

The next film for the MonsterVerse is Godzilla vs. Kong, which will feature a showdown between the two titular monsters. It is set to hit theaters on Nov. 20 of this year.

Directed by Michael Dougherty, Godzilla: King of the Monsters stars Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds and Zhang Ziyi.
