Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Mike Dougherty has shared storyboards and script pages for an unused post-credits scene that would have featured the Mothra Twins. Although scripted and storyboarded, the scene would never be shot and only exists in this form.

The scene takes place in Tokyo and follows Dr. Chen making her way through a busy street before entering a side street ramen bar. Inside, she gives a knowing nod to the chef before making her way into the back and down some stairs to the basement. Behind a secret door, Dr. Chen navigates her way through a torch-lit tunnel that features "familiar hieroglyphics" etched into its facade. She then approaches a figure who is revealed to be her twin sister Lin, and together, they thread their way toward the sound of children singing in the distance.

"When do we begin?" Lin asks after finding a Mothra egg, to which Dr. Chen replies, "Soon. Very soon." As they smile, the post-credits scene would have then cut to black.

The Mothra Twins were first introduced in 1961's Mothra as twin fairies whose singing is instrumental in awakening the titular monster. Although this scene was never shot, the 2019 movie does feature hints of Mothra's origin, its fictional Infant Island where the Mothra Twins reside and the idea that Monarch has been utilizing the skills of multiple generations of twin sisters for its project. In fact, one of the headlines featured during the credits is about a mysterious egg Monarch has discovered.

Godzilla has featured in numerous movies from both Japan and America. The next American film to feature the King of the Monsters is Godzilla vs. Kong, directed by Adam Wingard and starring Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. The film arrives in theaters Nov. 20.
