The upcoming film Godzilla vs. Kong looks to reignite an old feud that first hit the big screen with 1962's King Kong vs. Godzilla. While fans were shocked to see Kong's record-breaking height in the new film's trailer, Godzilla remains the behemoth he's been since Legendary's previous movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Nonetheless, Legendary's Godzilla pales in comparison to Godzilla Earth.

The largest on-screen incarnation of the character to date, Godzilla Earth debuted in the 2017 animated film Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters. After giant monsters begin plaguing cities, humans, brought to near extinction, flee Earth to settle on the planet of Tau-e. When conditions on Tau-e are deemed uninhabitable, a group of humans set out to recolonize Earth. But 20,000 years have passed, and the group must contend with Godzilla, who is now Earth's dominant apex predator.

With Godzilla Earth earning the title of one of the strongest incarnations to date, let's breakdown the kaiju's powers, weaknesses and enemies.

Godzilla Earth's Overpowered Abilities

Godzilla Planet of the Monsters - Godzilla

Godzilla Earth is a creature born of nature. His leaf-shaped dorsal plates are representative of the monster's evolution when left to thrive on Earth alone. The majority of Godzilla's energy is derived from his dorsal plates, which can disable nearby electronics or produce an Asymmetrically Permeable Shield capable of blocking all incoming damage, including nuclear strikes. Even without the shield, Godzilla's metallic muscle fibers grant him significant protection and heat resistance.

If Godzilla does manage to take damage, his cells have remarkable regenerative and reproductive properties. Over 20,000 years, repeated propagation of Godzilla Earth's cells even generated a whole new ecosystem on Earth and two smaller subspecies of Godzilla: Servum and Godzilla Filius. The Super Oscillatory Wave is also unique to this incarnation of the kaiju. Developing while Godzilla rose to dominance on Earth, the monster's roar releases a sonic blast capable of crushing targets.

Like most of his predecessors, Godzilla Earth retains his signature atomic breath. The powerful charged particle beam not only comes in handy for defeating enemies, but Godzilla also used it to break free from an underground prison. Godzilla can also create a devastating shockwave known as the Plasma Cutter by swinging his tail at supersonic speeds.

Attempting to destroy Godzilla the same way they killed Godzilla Filius, the United Earth tried overloading his body with electromagnetic energy using EMP Harpoons. While Godzilla Filius exploded from the excess energy, Godzilla Earth converted it into heat and raised the temperature to lethal levels around him. Getting close to the monster is difficult enough as his ability to absorb radio waves throws off targeting systems and radar. Coupled with his improved swimming speed, Godzilla is exceptionally challenging to track underwater even with the most advanced technology.

Godzilla Earth's Few Weaknesses

Godzilla's biggest weakness is his own atomic breath. This was demonstrated when Mothra used her scales to reflect Godzilla's atomic breath back at him, forcing him to retreat. Aside from his own weapon being turned against him, Godzilla Earth struggled to defeat Ghidorah due to the creature's ability to ignore the universe's laws of physics. This unusual situation allowed Ghidorah to bypass Godzilla's shield and prevented the King of Monsters from attacking.

Overall, Godzilla Earth's power is considered limitless. As a result, those looking to destroy him must look for small loopholes and advantages. For example, Godzilla is typically unable to be tracked by targeting systems. However, this ability is disabled when Godzilla is using his atomic breath, rendering him vulnerable.

Godzilla Earth's Enemies

Mechagodzilla - Godzilla Planet of the Monsters

Aside from other kaiju like Mothra and Ghidorah, humans remain one of Godzilla Earth's top enemies. Over four years, Bilusaludo engineers created Mechagodzilla, a nanometal titan designed as the ultimate weapon against Godzilla. During the 2018 film City on the Edge of Battle, Mechagodzilla City was created as a city-wide Godzilla weapon. Bilusaludo designed large buildings that acted as deathtraps. Once again, nanometal proved to be effective against Godzilla. After luring him into a chamber, the King of Monsters was trapped by the solidified liquid.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein, Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max March 26.
