A new sample from the upcoming Godzilla 4K remaster shows a mind-blowing improvement to the visuals of the 2014 film. The sample was posted to Twitter, highlighting the immense difference made to the lighting of the original release. Both of Godzilla's appearances in Warner Bros. Pictures' MonsterVerse were met with some criticisms regarding the dim visuals, but the remaster sample has addressed the issue, providing a significant spotlight on the characters and the vessel they stand on, as well as the giant kaiju beneath the water.RELATED: The MonsterVerse Timeline Up Until Godzilla vs. Kong, Explained

Another tweet provides a side-by-side comparison that makes the difference easier to appreciate. The image from the original release displays why the dark appearance was so heavily criticized, as so many features were obscured by the night. The city in the background was made clearly visible in the remastered version. Additionally, the upped lighting seems to have removed the blur from various details in the shot, including the characters and the numbers on the ship.

The criticism was not solely directed towards the first film, as Godzilla: King of Monsters received similarly negative remarks about its choice in lighting since both contained massive monster fights veiled in the darkness of night. By contrast, Kong: Skull Island did not fall into the same pitfall due to many of its scenes taking place in the light of day.

The planned  March 23 release of the remast is rather timely due to the imminent release of Godzilla vs. Kong. The 4K enhancements, which the sequel had already received, will provide fans of the series with a chance to recap the build-up like never before. Clips and trailers released ahead of the movie have displayed the two will confront each other under daylight; however, some night scenes have also been presented. That being said, in contrast to the other movies, the night battles take place in a vibrant, neon-lit city that seem to illuminate the battlefield.

Legends collide in Godzilla vs. Kong as these mythic adversaries meet in a spectacular battle for the ages, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home, and with them is Jia, a young orphaned girl with whom he has formed a unique and powerful bond. But they unexpectedly find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla, cutting a swath of destruction across the globe. The epic clash between the two titans -- instigated by unseen forces -- is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the Earth.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein, Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on March 31.
