Netflix will be taking its anime arm into Greek mythology, thanks to a brand-new original series titled Gods & Heroes.The streaming service has ordered eight episodes, set in the world of Greek mythology, which will revolve around the illegitimate son of Zeus, a mysterious young man who's given the unenviable task of saving Heaven and Earth, despite the interference of a vengeful goddess and her monstrous forces. From the description, it sounds like Netflix is doing its own version of Clash of the Titans.

"In Gods & Heroes we wanted to tell a wholly original story set in the beloved world of Greek mythology," creators Vlas and Charley Parlapanides said in an official statement. "We are thankful for such an amazing cast and for such great creative partners at Netflix and Powerhouse Animation, who continue to push the envelope and expand the anime genre in a manner we had only dreamed of."

Powerhouse Animation is responsible for bringing Netflix's highly-popular anime series Castlevania to life, leaving fans eager to see what the Parlapanides -- who have worked on properties such as Immortals and Death Note -- have in store. Leading the voice cast will be Jason O'Mara (the DC Animated Universe's Batman), Iron Fist's Jessica Henwick, Mamie Gummer (Robot Chicken, True Detective) and Chris Diamantopoulos (Batman Unlimited).

John Derderian, Director of Anime for Netflix, commended the Parlapanides as creators who "have an outstanding track record of telling gripping stories set in fantastical worlds." He added, "We are thrilled to bring their unique vision for the Gods of Mount Olympus to Netflix members around the world."

This series will join the Netflix anime stable which also includes upcoming takes on Pacific Rim, Altered Carbon, Ghost in the Shell, as well as past spins on a Godzilla trilogy and Devilman Crybaby.

No release date has been announced for Gods & Heroes.
