Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins discussed his next Prime Video series, the live-action adaptation of God of War.

"This is something I've been working on for a long time with [Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby]. So, the announcement just came out but it's something we've known about and been involved with for a while," Judkins said in an interview with Dragonmount. "So, you know, it's really exciting. I love the games, I love working with those two guys, they're great, really smart, love The Expanse. I'm sure many others are fans as well. Iron Man, also a good film. Don't know if you've seen it."

Judkins also elaborated on how his work as a showrunner on Prime Video's The Wheel of Time will impact his work on this new project. "I've always worked on other stuff while I'm working on Wheel so it'll never affect my commitment to Wheel, obviously," he explained. "But, it's something that I'm really happy to be working on because I really love it. And it's also really different than Wheel in a lot of ways so it's a good balance to be between the two."

Prime Video Takes on Norse Mythology With God of War

Prime Video confirmed that a God of War series was in development at the studio in May. In December, it was officially announced that Judkins would serve as showrunner for the live-action adaptation with Fergus and Ostby joining him as writers and executive producers. Other executive producers include God of War director and Santa Monica Studio's Studio Creative Director, Cory Barlog, Santa Monica Studio's Yumi Yang, Vertigo's Roy Lee and Playstation Productions Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan.

In the same interview with Dragonmount, Judkins acknowledged that God of War is a "very different project and medium to adapt," in the sense that one series is based on a video game while Wheel of Time is adapted from the book series by Robert Jordan. Similar to the PlayStation game, Prime Video's God of War will follow Kratos as he and his estranged son journey to the highest peak to spread his wife's ashes as her "final wish." Per the show's synopsis, "Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world."

"We are so proud and excited to be working with our friends at Amazon Studios and our partners at PlayStation Productions to adapt this beautiful and heartbreaking game into a premium live-action series," said Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios at the time of the announcement. "Rafe, Mark and Hawk are crafting a transportive series that charts a path through the ancient mythological journey of Kratos."

At the time of writing, God of War does not yet have a release date or a cast.
