Netflix decided to cancel GLOW after initially renewing the show for a final, fourth season in Sept. 2019. The news came as a shock to fans and the cast. Starring actor Marc Maron spoke out on the show's cancellation, calling for Netflix to resolve the show's storyline in a movie.Maron's words were posted in a video-clip by GLOW cast-member Kate Nash -- who plays Rhonda Richardson -- on Twitter for fans to join in and help #SaveGLOW.
In the shared video-clip, Maron speaks out about his frustration with the show being ended before the story is done being told. He alludes to the show's creators and writers already knowing where the story would go with GLOW and that he and the cast would be happy to wait -- however long it takes -- to create something with Netflix that finishes the storylines that are left unresolved. He suggested that a two-hour length film could do the trick.
Cast members retweeted his words on Twitter, asking their fans to let Netflix know of their hopes to see GLOWÂ not tap out before showing up to its final match.
Actor Britney Young -- who plays Carmen Wade, the show's fictional encyclopedia of wrestling moves -- agreed with Maron's words, asking for a chance to "finish our story."
Actor Britt Baron -- who plays Justine Biagi, Maron's fictional daughter -- shared support as well, posting onto Twitter, "We would love the chance to finish our story."
Actor Kimmy Gatewood -- who portrays Stacey Beswick in GLOW -- shared an online petition, asking for fan support. As of this writing, the petition has garnered over 1,000 signatures.
Actor Marianna Palka -- who portrays Reggie Walsh -- also added her voice to the cast members of GLOW, sharing her disappointment of the sudden and unexpected cancellation as well as her hope for the chance to finish its story and her part in it.
Initially, Netflix planned to have a 10 episode length fourth and final season of GLOW. Its decision to cancel GLOW was dependent on the cost of maintaining coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic safety measures and procedures. It proved too hard to do while filming a close-contact, wrestling show. However, it seems like the creators, writers, and now cast, are fine with waiting to finish the story safely, as long as they're given a chance.
Inspired by the short-lived wrestling series about the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling from the '80s, GLOW was created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch. The series stars Allison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Sydelle Noel, Britney Young, Marc Maron, Chris Lowell and Kia Stevens. Seasons 1, 2 and 3 of GLOW are streaming now on Netflix.
