Netflix debuted the trailer for Rian Johnson's upcoming whodunnit Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

The new video sets the stage for another twist-laden investigation as a group of friends is invited to a luxurious getaway in Greece by tech billionaire Miles Bron, played by Edward Norton. Yet once they arrive, their trip takes a turn for the worst, resulting in master sleuth Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) returning to catch another killer. The trailer provides viewers with a brief rundown of the key suspects, highlighting Glass Onion's ensemble cast which includes Dave Bautista, Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monáe, Kate Hudson and Kathryn Hahn.

Glass Onion follows the widespread popularity of 2019's Knives Out, which marked Craig's first time playing charismatic Southern detective Benoit Blanc. The original was a critical success among both audiences and critics, many of whom praised the cast's performance as well as the tight script which served up many confounding thrills. While fans are excited about Johnson's return to whodunnits, many have expressed confusion over the project's title due to the way it seemingly distances itself from the original story.

What Lies in Knives Out's Future?

"When I made Knives Out," Johnson explained, "That’s what excited me about the prospect of making more mysteries with Daniel [Craig] as Benoit Blanc - to emulate Christie and have every film be like a whole new book, with its own tone, ambition, reason for being…" While the future of the franchise remains unknown, Netflix officially bought the rights to two Knives Out sequels in March 2021, suggesting that at least one more film will be produced after Glass Onion hits the streamer.

Johnson himself has insisted that he's willing to make as many Benoit Blanc stories as he can, as long as Craig is happy to play the part. "I’m going to keep making these until Daniel [Craig] blocks me on his phone," Johnson joked. Details on the third Knives Out mystery are still scarce but fans assume that it will introduce yet another ensemble cast of different characters in a similarly luxurious location.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is slated to debut on Netflix on Dec. 23. The film will also be in theaters for a single week starting on Nov. 23.
