Oftentimes, movies feature Easter eggs for viewers to notice during viewing. Sometimes this is a tiny little detail, and other times, it's even a person. Netflix's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is no stranger to this, as some fans have noticed a recent Marvel star's cameo appearance at the beginning of the film.

The latest mystery escapade from director Rian Johnson comes with the recent film Glass Onion. It follows renowned Detective Benoit Blanc as he once again investigates a murder. This time around, he's sent to a private Greek island, where a lavish vacation is taking place during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Billionaire Miles Bron and his friends are all suspects in Detective Blanc's investigation of a very strange and mysterious situation involving another murder and unsuspecting people. Only Daniel Craig's southern-accented Benoit Blanc can untangle the large web of lies and mysteries he encounters.

Who Does Ethan Hawke Play in Glass Onion?

Most people that watched Glass Onion likely had no idea that Ethan Hawke is featured in the film. This is mainly because his role is minimal, very quick, and near the beginning of the film. He's credited as "Efficient Man" and has a simple look in a white suit in sunglasses. He greets Benoit Blanc and the other characters at the pier with a spritz in the mouth of some mysterious concoction. Once they're seemingly vaccinated against COVID-19, he gives each of them a wristband and a simple "you're good" of acknowledgment.

Despite the bizarre nature of Hawke's character, he's actually pretty important for the island. Considering Glass Onion takes place at the start of the pandemic, no one wants the virus to spread to each other or anyone else on the island. So, his title as "Efficient Man" is quite fitting.

How Ethan Hawke Scored a Cameo in the Rian Johnson's Glass Onion

Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow in Moon Knight.

The inclusion of The Black Phone's Ethan Hawke and his "Efficient Man" is simply a nice coincidence. According to director Rian Johnson, the Disney+ series Moon Knight was filming in Budapest at the same time as Glass Onion's shoot was beginning in Greece. Simply put, Hawke was in the right place (or close enough) at the right time. He had apparently been a fan of Johnson's for a while, so he jumped at the opportunity to work with the director. So Hawke trekked over to the Glass Onion set for a weekend with his family and shot one scene before much of the production took place. Johnson reportedly considered this scene a little blessing for the movie.

It's pretty likely that if Ethan Hawke hadn't been shooting for Moon Knight, he wouldn't have gotten the chance to cameo in Glass Onion. Seeing as Moon Knight is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans can definitely thank Marvel for this little cameo.

To see Ethan Hawke's Efficient Man do his thing, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is available to stream on Netflix.
