Netflix unveils the first clip from writer-director Rian Johnson's upcoming Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

Shown by Johnson during Netflix's online Tudum fan event, the clip introduces viewers to some the whodunnit's new suspects for Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) to investigate. "The mystery begins when a group of old friends all receive an unexpected invitation in the form of an intricate puzzle box," Johnson says. "But what starts as a game turns into something much more nefarious." The clip then shows the characters played by Leslie Odom Jr., Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn and Jessica Henwick solving their puzzles and receiving an invitation from their friend Miles to his private island, with part of the message reading, "You'll also be competing to solve the mystery of my murder."

The Knives Out Sequel and Its Colorful Cast, Explained

The first Knives Out film was released theatrically in 2019 and made over $311,600 worldwide, earning its fair share of awards and nominations. At the Golden Globes, stars Ana de Armas and Craig were nominated for Best Actress and Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, respectively, while the movie itself was nominated for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. Johnson's murder mystery was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars, its story filled with humor as much as crime. Unlike its predecessor, Glass Onion will go directly onto Netflix after a limited theatrical release.

The film replaces Knives Out's impressive cast with another of A-listers. Instead of De Armas, Chris Evans, Toni Collette, Michael Shannon, Jamie Lee Curtis and the other actors comprising the Thrombey Family, Glass Onion stars Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Odom Jr., Henwick, Madelyne Cline, Hahn, Hudson, Ethan Hawke and Bautista. Glass Onion's plot will thus not serve as a direct continuation of Knives Out's story, but an entirely new case for Benoit Blanc to solve. Whether any of the actors from the first film will make an appearance, aside from Craig, remains to be seen.
