They're heeeeeerrrrre ... again. MGM and Fox 2000 have announced they're moving forward with the Gil Kenan-directed remake of Tobe Hooper's 1984 classic Poltergeist.
Kenan has some experience in the unusual house genre thanks to his previous film, the CG-animated Monster House. The remake, penned by David Lindsay-Abaire (Oz the Great and Powerful), seems to keep the skeleton of the original film as described in the release:
In a revisionist take on the classic horror film, a family struggling to make ends meet relocates to an outdated suburban home and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter and challenges them to band together to rescue her from the clutches of evil.
The film is expected to start shooting this fall, which means we can't be too far away from casting announcements.
