As filming begins on the second season of Fox's The Gifted, a character with villainous connections to the X-Men has just been cast.

Grace Byers, fresh off the hit television series Empire, has joined the cast as Reeva, who's described as "a smart, charming, authoritative, elegant, beautiful woman who is ruthless in her efforts to fight for her people."

In the comics, Reeva Payge is a member of the Inner Circle of the New York City chapter of the Hellfire Club, eventually taking on the mantle of the Black Queen. The character first appeared in 1994's X-Men Annual #3, by writer Ian Edginton and artist Gene Ha. She possesses the ability to cause hallucinations in those around her.

Further hinting at Byers' connection to the Black Queen is the casting announcement's tease that she will recruit Polaris (Emma Dumont), Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White and the Stepford Cuckoos (Skyler Samuels) into her "Inner Circle" as "she leads an elite band of followers and has a soft spot for her new recruits, but is still capable of extreme violence in defense of her vision."

With The Gifted scheduled to return to Fox this fall, moving from its Monday time slot to Tuesdays at 8 p.m., it's becoming increasingly clear the Hellfire Club will play a significant role in the series after being so heavily teased in the first season.

The Gifted stars Stephen Moyer as Reed Strucker, Amy Acker as Caitlin Strucker, Sean Teale as Eclipse/Marcos Diaz, Jamie Chung as Blink/Clarice Fong, Coby Bell as Jace Turner, Emma Dumont as Polaris/Lorna Dane, Blair Redford as Thunderbird/John Proudstar, Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren Strucker, and Percy Hynes White as Andy Strucker.
