SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "calaMity," the latest episode of The Gifted.

Clarice "Blink" Fong just paid the ultimate price to protect the Morlocks. In "calaMity," the latest episode of The Gifted, she sacrificed her life so that Erg and the rest of the Morlocks could escape the Purifers' attack.

The odds against the Morlocks were bad from the outset. Inner Circle leader Reeva Payge handed the schematics for the Morlocks' subterranean world to Benedict Ryan, who then turned them over to Jace Turner and the Purifiers. Using his Sentinel Services know-how, he was able to see past the Morlocks' tricks and infiltrated their hub, guns blazing.

Fortunately, Clarice was able to evacuate the children and those mutants who could not defend themselves. Erg and several mutants with battle-ready powers stayed behind to fight. Soon, Erg was the only mutant left alive, and Clarice refused to leave him behind to die at the Purfiers' hands. When Erg gave up the fight, Clarice led him to a back corner and opened a portal. Erg made it through, but Clarice didn't have that opportunity.

As she held the portal open, John "Thunderbird" Proudstar ran towards her to help her through. Turner seized this opportunity to open fire, shooting her three times in the back and spraying John with blood. At the final shot, she collapsed backwards back into the tunnels and her portal closed behind her.

With the fighting over, Turner finally got a chance to take in his surroundings. He spotted a teddy bear lying abandoned on the floor and made a beeline for it. He picked it up and his face fell in shock, perhaps with the realization that he may have cost someone to lose a child like he lost his daughter Grace. In this way, he may have finally become the villain of his own story.

As in most mediums, "dead" doesn't mean dead on The Gifted until a body is shown. As such, there's a slim chance Clarice could survive this conflict with the Purifiers, at least so long as Turner becomes sympathetic to her plight. However, her odds of survival are low -- and dwindling.

Clarice wasn't the only casualty in "calaMity." Sage also met her end at the hands -- or, rather, voice -- of Reeva Payge. After some sleuthing, the Frost sisters determined Sage was the mole because Polaris used her login to share Ryan's whereabouts, leading to his death. Since her mutation prevents them from reading her mind, she couldn't prove her innocence. Convinced Sage was guilty, Reeva used her powers to take care of the problem permanently.
