Paramount Pictures and Hasbro's G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes movie is currently in pre-production, but another G.I. Joe spinoff movie is also in development. The currently unnamed project will feature G.I. Joe's undercover specialist: Chuckles.
Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec are working on the script. The duo is known for scripting the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. The film will be an ensemble piece, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This means the movie will not center around Chuckles alone.
This will be the first live-action appearance of Chuckles aka Philip M. Provost, whose only film appearance so far happened in the animated G.I. Joe: The Movie. The undercover and infiltration specialist debuted on toy shelves and in comic books in 1987. So far, he is the only character confirmed to appear in the new movie.
The last time G.I. Joe was seen on the big screen was in 2013. Now Paramount is reinvigorating the movie franchise with multiple new projects. In addition to the films starring Snake Eyes and Chuckles, the studio has been planning a film titled G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant, which has no announced release date.
Snake Eyes premieres October 16 2020. It is directed by Robert Schwentke (Insurgent, Allegiant). The film will follow Snake Eyes' journey to Japan for training and his eventually joining the G.I. Joe team.
