Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are in negotiations with writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse for a followup to the upcoming Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins.

According to THR, the film is described as "not quite a sequel but rather an expansion to take audience goers deeper into the world of Joe."

Announced in May 2018, little is known about Snake Eyes at this time, though the film will serve as an origin story for the character and take place before the events of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. In those two previous installments, Snake Eyes was played by Ray Park but for the solo project, he'll be portrayed by Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding.

In addition to these limited details, the film is also expected to explore Snake Eyes' lifelong rivalry against Cobra ninja Storm Shadow, who's played by Andre Koji.

Directed by Robert Schwentke, Snake Eyes stars Henry Golding as the eponymous G.I. Joe character. He is joined by Andre Koji as Storm Shadow, Iko Uwais as Hard Master, Úrsula Corberó as Baroness and Samara Weaving as Scarlett. The film arrives in theaters Oct. 23.
