The newly released Snake Eyes movie once again tries to revive the A Real American Hero incarnation of the once immense G.I. Joe franchise. Focusing on the stealthy, silent ninja of the group, the movie hopes to bring back the '80s juggernaut in a big way. Whether or not it will succeed at this task remains to be seen, but there are potentially several other G.I. Joe projects in the works.

Some of these tentatively upcoming works were announced years ago, while others were ordered this year. Of course, plans change, as shown by the dissolution of the Hasbro Cinematic Universe. But from a Lady Jaye spinoff to a Transformers crossover, there are several shows and movies supposedly coming out featuring the Joes.

Snake Eyes "Sequel"

The most obvious next move is a full-on G.I. Joe movie, and that seems to already be in the pipeline. Last year, Snake Eyes' producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura stated that a follow-up is planned for the current movie, and that said film would be written by Seberg screenwriters Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse.

The idea for this movie is for it to build on the concepts introduced in Snake Eyes but not be an actual sequel. Thus, Snake Eyes could be seen as The Hobbit, while the main G.I. Joe series is The Lord of the Rings. To be fair, this follow-up idea was announced last year when the current film was meant to still release in October, so plans may have changed.

G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant

Another planned movie is/was G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant, which was announced all the way back in 2018. This movie, which was announced as a sequel to G.I. Joe: Retaliation, featured Dwayne Johnson's incarnation of Roadblock assembling a new team of Joes to take down a deadly terrorist organization. The threat wasn't going to be Cobra, however, taking a different approach from other entries in the series.

Given that Snake Eyes officially rebooted the series and given how poorly received the previous two movies were, Ever Vigilant is likely canceled. But it hasn't been officially announced as such and could be retooled for the new continuity.

Transformers vs. G.I. Joe

Bonaventura has also recently come out in support of a cinematic crossover between the G.I. Joe and Transformers films, but according to him, many of the powers that be at Paramount have for years opposed this idea, which also isn't very popular among fans. It doesn't help that the Transformers movies have had middling critical reception and are on their way to being rebooted, while none of the Joe flicks have found much success.

G.I. Joe: Lady Jaye TV Series

Another planned project is the Amazon Prime Video G.I. Joe TV series starring Lady Jaye. Not much is known about the series, however, outside of the fact that Lady Jaye is the focus and that the showrunner will be Erik Oleson, who was also in charge of Amazon's Carnival Row. And like with many of these projects, the success or failure of Snake Eyes will likely determine whether or not this show is connected to the old movies, the current franchise or a completely separate continuity.

To see how Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins expands the quickly forming G.I. Joe Cinematic Universe, the film is currently in theaters.
