The Heat co-writer Katie Dippold will reunite with director Paul Feig for Sony Pictures' female-led Ghostbusters reboot, Heat Vision reports.

The director of Bridesmaids and creator of the cult series Freaks and Geeks, Feig boarded the project in August, immediately causing confusion: What was initially presumed to be the fabled Ghostbusters 3, which would feature some of the original cast passing the torch to a new generation, quickly transformed into a complete reboot with a female cast.

They now appear to be separate films, with Ghostbusters co-creator Dan Aykroyd saying just last month that he envisions a revived, expanded franchise.

Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two Ghostbusters and was attached to helm the third, until dropping out following the death of Harold Ramis, will serve as a producer.

Dippold's writing credits also include MADtv and Parks and Recreation.

Update (1:15 p.m.): Feig followed the news with the following tweet:

It's official. I'm making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That's who I'm gonna call.— Paul Feig (@paulfeig) October 8, 2014
