General Mills is making cereal more out-of-this-world with two new releases coming to grocery store shelves. One of them features galactic changes to the classic breakfast cereal Lucky Charms, while the other is a new cereal based on the Ghostbusters franchise. Each one of them will be available for a limited time starting in mid-April and will come in both family and mid-size boxes.
Lucky Charms has been on store shelves since 1964 and has small marshmallows mixed with toasted oat pieces. The updated version called Lucky Charms Galactic has three new magic charms marshmallow pieces: two planet charms and a rocket charm. These new marshmallows will be included in the cereal in addition to the standard eight charms that fans know and love.
The new Ghostbusters cereal from General Mills is related upcoming movie sequel, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The cereal features fruity-flavored sweetened corn puffs with ghost and ectoplasm-shaped marshmallows. This isn't the first time that there has been a Ghostbusters cereal, though. Ralston produced one from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, though the name changed based on the movie or animated series that was being promoted at the time.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is set decades after the events of 1989's Ghostbusters II. It focuses on a young family related to a member of the original Ghostbusters team who move to a farm in Oklahoma. They end up encountering and fighting a variety of supernatural threats in their new home as well as exploring their family legacy. The upcoming cereal from General Mills is a promotional tie-in to the movie, which is slated for release in November 2021.
Directed by Jason Reitman, Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd and Mckenna Grace. The film arrives in theaters Nov. 11.
