Even though Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the direct sequel to the original duology, has been delayed till 2021, Hasbro's new Neutrona Wand prop will hold over fans hungry for ectoplasmic adventures.

A replica of Egon Spengler's own ghost fighting weapon, this Neutrona Wand is modeled after the version featured in Afterlife. However, as Afterlife takes place quite a long time after the original duology, there's been some wear and tear from years of busting using homemade tools built on a budget. Hasbro's replica reflects all of that with immaculate attention to detail. Even though some of the wand graphics are stickers, they do not look cheap or tacky, instead adding the right amount of tarnished effect to the prop. The replica's parts also have a welding effect, indicating where Spengler put together the different hodgepodge parts of the Neutrona Wand, which is impressive considering the toy is made of plastic.

However, one of the best features is the Neutrona Wand's weight, which makes if feel like the genuine article and as if it could actually blast some ghosts. Part of this is due to the various levels, knobs and switches on the Neutrona Wand, which are all made of metal. Additionally, there's a metal hook on the Neutrona Wand that makes it perfect for cosplayers hoping to complete their outfits.

Still, the real beauty is actually turning the Neutrona Wand on. Being able to flip the switches to see the lights and sounds emit is an almost movie-level look and feel. Flipping all the switches to power the wand on has different effects on the lights and sounds that have a progression to being able to turn on the actual beam effect. Flipping the switches in the correct order brings the replica to full power, with sound and vibration that brings a level of character to the process. Once the Neutrona Wand is fully powered, the intensify button makes the shaft light up as if it were firing off a stream of energy.

There are a variety of different customization options for the Neutrona Wand's beam once it actually gets going. Users can use the knob on the top of the base of the Neutrona Wand to increase the level of feedback vibration. There are four modes for the light of the stream that are accessed via a button near the barrel. Having so much variety to the actual effects is a great addition to the product and helps make it feel worth its $99.99 USD price point.

With the amount of detail, functionality, and overall value that Spengler's Neutrona Wand has, it is well worth the price for any wannabe Ghostbusters out there.

Spengler's Neutrona Wand is available from Hasbro Pulse, Big Bad Toy Store, GameStop and Entertainment Earth.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman, who also co-wrote the film with Gil Kenan. Starring Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd and Mckenna Grace, the film arrives in theaters March 5, 2021.
